SHADOW GIRLS: INTO THE SHADOWS

SHADOW GIRLS: INTO THE SHADOWS

Shadow Girls: Into the Shadows by Chloe Walker

Haden, a hidden side of the world where humans have evolved to unlock superpowers. In a world run by organizations and agents, your status and rank mean everything. Kitalei, Yasmin and Akira stumble upon a portal to Haden, discovering they’ve been living in the wrong world their whole lives!

Shadow girls

I am glad I’ve had the chance to read this light novel again and to see how much Chloe has grown as a writer since the early stages of her first draft. Her character development is strong on the main cast, and while others feel genetic, it didn’t distract me from the main story. Kitalei fast became my favorite and for good reason as you will see in the novel. Yasmine and the others felt a little too unbelievable for their abilities.

Chloe also drew the detailed illustrations throughout the novel, bringing her characters to life and setting the scene beautifully!

What put me off a smidgen was the font changes for what I could only presume was for different characters or flash backs. For me, I feel they weren’t needed at all. Also, with 38 chapters and a few other errors with editing here and there, it was a slow read.

Looking past the minor hiccups in the story, I was very much entertained while reading Shadow Girls on my vacation, although it may have took me longer than expected to finish. Chloe, being only 18 years-old, did a fantastic job with her first LN.

Shadow Girls is in the stages of being re-edited at this time. Look out for the second edition on her Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/theshadowgirlsofficial/

IMG_5718

Vecto Vengeance + Voyage is an action packed, Sci-fi, light novel. With every page more exciting than the other, Reid Kemper does a great job of drawing you into the scene. Reid introduces witty and exciting characters on Vecto’s journey with ease, leaving you attached to every new character.

Reid Kemper’s writing is fluent and enjoyable to read. The Sci-fi themed light novel is packed with information about new and exciting worlds and dimensions, but doesn’t leave you too overwhelmed with an info dump. Developing great and powerfully written characters seems to be Reid’s strong point. I was automatically drawn to Vecto and his erratic actions because of the loss of his friend and followed his journey hoping for his revenge!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Vecto Vengance + Voyage , and although I’m not much of a Sci-fi-reading kinda gal, I couldn’t help but turn the page! I would 100% recommend Reid’s Kempers light novel, whether you’re a Sci-fi person or not. With no foul language, it’s perfect for 13-years and over. Pre-order the box set on Amazon to have it by November 5th for only 5.99!

FINAL HOPE Vol 1

FINAL HOPE Vol 1

Final Hope by Joshua J. Peidra

Mikomi Saigo is shot by an unknown assailant and transported 10 years back to his 14-year-old self. He must relive his life to find his killer. But the more changes he makes, the more the world around his changes.

Final hope

While there aren’t any illustrations, there’s no need of any. Joshua is very descriptive, and paints a perfect picture of the characters in your mind. With that said, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Mikomi, the protagonist, Serah and Ryan, friends from his past all felt generic. I feel that it was due to the characters speech, and how it was written down to the crossed T’s and dotted I’s.

Even with the lack of connection, the story unfolded nicely, although somewhat a little slow for my liking. I wished to know more about the shooting in general, but not a lot was said (hopefully in Vol 2!). The detail, however, was great. The fact that Mikomi could change the world with every subtle decision, kept me turning the page. The Custodian of Time was a nice touch, too!

For only 4.99 on kindle and 12.99 paperback on Amazon,  Final Hope by Joshua J. Peidra is a great read for the Sci-fi/Fantasy lover! http://amzn.to/2tUZURs

THE EVERLASTING Vol 1 EYE OF THE WISE

THE EVERLASTING Vol 1 EYE OF THE WISE

The Everlasting Vol 1 Eye of the Wise

by Biako

Asura Shirogami joins a magic school recommended by his Master. Only, he doesn’t know how to use magic! After meeting a strange professor and a few friends, Asura accidently finds himself taking part in the Grand Tournament. When a plot to steal research from the strange professor Osfor interrupts the tournament, Asura and his friends end up battling a strong and terrifying creature. This is where Asura discovers how powerful he really is.

IMG_4917

The Everlasting was a quick read at only 222 pages! The writing was fast paced and easy to read, without feeling left behind. Asura, the main character was easy to follow, although I found myself liking one of the side characters more, (Shiki) because he had a likable personality where as Asura was quite plain.

Though there wasn’t any illustrations throughout the novel, I didn’t notice until halfway through! Everything was explained nicely, and I was drawn in by the story. There wasn’t a time where Asura’s looks where explained or shown, though, which I would have liked to know. But the rest of the characters where talked about in detail and where a great addition to the protagonist.

Biako has done a great job with The Everlasting being his first light novel! Biako has told me that the story is grander than what’s apparent, and grows to cover worlds and much more! His novel is available on Vic’s lab for only 5.99!

Vic’s lab is the first and only North American publisher focused on original English light novels. The company focuses on fans on young adult science fiction and fantasy books–especially those who like superhero movies, anime and RPG video games, and similar media. Make sure to check them out! http://www.vicslab.com/

With only a few tid-bits here and there I didn’t like, such as different gods etc., know that it’s my personal opinion and conviction!

LILY CLAIRET AND THE ROMANTIC NON-GENRE Vol 1

LILY CLAIRET AND THE ROMANTIC NON-GENRE Vol 1

Lily Clairet and the Romantic Non-Genre Vol 1

by Kaye NG

Lily Clairet and the Romantic Non-Genre is just that–a romantic non-genre. A slice of life, where Lily and her friends discover an abandoned room at the end of the music department corridor, and set out to find the missing journalism club president!

IMG_4830

If you love slice of life, this novel’s for you. Me, though, not so much. With nothing much going on but the odd light mystery here and there, the plot hadn’t any substance that warranted my undivided attention. I’m more on an action-kinda-gal. But fret not, there were some upsides. The writing was beautiful, the metaphors were strong and only occasionally overused, and the illustrations were on point! Check it out…

IMG_4829

Although Lily Clairet was not my cup of tea, it might be yours! Lily’s character was well crafted, along with the rest. Emiko the cycling captain made me laugh, and Kaneko brought a mischievous side to the story.

Free for kindle unlimited and only 2.99 on kindle, this three volume series is set at a great price. Also available in paperback on Amazon for 8.95 http://amzn.to/2p5RYek

A MOST UNLIKELY HERO Vol 1

A MOST UNLIKELY HERO Vol 1

A Most Unlikely Hero by Brandon Varnell

Alexander S. Ryker, a part-time inventor, is expelled from the Mars Police Academy when he accidentally causes millions of credits worth in damage chasing down the leader of the Black Panthers. Oops! When becoming a hero like his father seems to hang by a thread, Alex stumbles upon a silver-haired girl passed out in an alleyway! Buying her food, Gabrielle reveals she also invents gadgets of all kinds, and that she’s an alien! Alex seizes the moment and vows to protect her from whoever is chasing her around the galaxy. Unfortunately, it a lot more complicated than he thinks!

IMG_4537

A Most Unlikely Hero starts out fast paced and with a lot of action, throwing in the protagonists inventions and humorous destructive nature. The characters are the typical dense-genius-wannabe-hero, and cutesy princess from another galaxy.

For me, the story lacked substance. Too many casual outings and meetings that did nothing to further the plot. Also the explicit sexual references were WAY too vivid for me and any young audiences that might purchase the novel in hopes for a fun PG read.

With all that said, the action was great and the detail that went into creating Alex’s many inventions was interesting! Brandon sure went over and beyond creating a whole new world on Mars. Brandon’s writing is topnotch, evoking the imagination on intense fight scenes and the more playful ones.

A Most Unlikely Hero is on Kindle for 3.99 and paperback for 13.00

TRIGGER LOCKED: THE MIND CONTROL ASSASSINS Vol 1

TRIGGER LOCKED: THE MIND CONTROL ASSASSINS Vol 1

Trigger Locked: The Mind Control Assassins by Sekina May

Touka and Yuuto are skilled assassins. They attend High School by day, and work on assignments by night. Receiving information about a government controlled microchip, Touka and Yuuto set out to find the man behind it. After discovering some important information that includes their friend Shiori, things take a sudden turn for the worst.

IMG_4431

As interesting as this sounds, Trigger Locked didn’t live up to my high expectations. The prologue and first chapter are mostly info dumps, and listing off the characters involved. By Chapter two, things start to get better and the story begins to unravel. However, I  got lost throughout the novel as there weren’t any character descriptions or surrounding detail.

Sekina does do a great job at researching the history of the CIA and the mind control program, MKUltra, which took place in the early 1950’s (and is still probably going on now), and relays it with a twist.  I feel the author needs to make one or two more edits, although, what it lacks in grammar it makes up with in a lot of information and an interesting story.

I would liked to have seen some illustrations throughout the novel, but I understand as an independent author, that can be impossible sometimes. Trigger Locked is on kindle for FREE, so I recommend it to anyone who loves a fast pace novel and isn’t too bothered about grammar and repetitive information. Keep in mind, paperback is 14.99

ATLANTIS: THE VISIONARY CONTINENT Vol 1

ATLANTIS: THE VISIONARY CONTINENT Vol 1

ATLANTIS: THE VISIONARY CONTINENT Vol 1 by Melissa Wong

This action, magic-packed light novel begins with a young girl, Achine, being abducted in the middle of the night by a mage! When she awakes in a mysterious place, they tell her she is the only heir to the throne of Atlantis, and that her grandfather, the king, is dead! She has nothing but his ring to remind her of the mainland–her once home. Achine struggles to accept this, as anyone would, until she attends the kings funeral and sees with her own eyes that it’s true! Her grandfather really is dead! The journey to the throne thus begins.

IMG_4152

Melissa throws you into a unknown world, packed full of magic and adventure. Her writing is fluent and the novel as a whole is beautifully put together. As her main character adjusts to life as an Atlantian, new relationships blossom, and others set out to overthrow the kingdom! Any young girl can relate to Achine, the main protagonist. Melissa has gone in depth with the character development, as well with side characters. I found myself laughing in parts, and feeling sad in others. Melissa has also gone to the trouble of creating her own language! She has even added a horoscope at the back and a map in the beginning. Amazing, right?

IMG_4153

Along with being the author, Melissa illustrated it too! She sure put in a lot of effort, and it has payed off!

IMG_4154

Overall, the story kept my interest, all 80,000 words of it! The only let down for me was the swearing, there’s quite a lot of it towards the end. I feel that if Melissa kept the cussing out, i would of given Atlantis five stars, but seeing as she didn’t, four stars will have to do! If you’re of age, I’d definitely recommend Atlantis: A Visionary Continent. One of my favorite indie light novels, for on 0.99 on amazon! http://amzn.to/2pbj0wC
